Well this is the beginning of a new journey. Actually, maybe this is just part of it, or the middle of it. Either way, I am somewhere, and somehow, I ended up here. I used to think that, although I deeply loved pretty things, the pursuit of beauty was perhaps vain and shallow. I know better now. After years of working with women and children facing the deepest sorrow, the greatest tragedy, I finally realized how important beauty is. It compels us to hope, to believe that things can be alright. It provides a sharp contrast to darkness and sorrow, so that we know that someday, things will be made right. That there is more. That rebirth and new life will come, even from places that seem to be barren. So this pursuit of beauty, this need to create, it isn't shallow. It is a chance to acknowledge hope, a chance to celebrate, a chance to remember that there is so much good, so much to be amazed by.
"Beauty is the remedy for the chaos and suffering in human life...The beautiful work of art brings consolation in sorrow and affirmation in joy."
"Au milieu de l'hiver, j'ai découvert en moi un invincible été."
~ Albert Camus
